Locks of Love

A long, long time ago a young mommy decided to cut off her hair for Locks of Love. She thought she might do it again and again, but as instead enjoyed her cute sassy haircuts. So she decided to grow out her daughters hair and encourage her to give it to Locks of Love.

Today was that fateful day.

Today we cut off about 10-11 inches of Lilah’s hair and will mail it to Locks of Love.

Lilah was a little emotional and teary eyed after I cut off her ponytail, but has really enjoyed her short hair for the day, so I think overall she’s really pleased with herself.

To show how long her hair has gotten. We’ve only been growing it for four years now, or forever years.

She’s a goof ball. Her favorite thing is to make silly faces when you’re trying to take a normal picture.

The final ponytail. This ruler was only 8 inches and that is Eden’s cute little arm and hand helping me.

Some people joked that we shouldn’t cut off Lilah’s hair because it was her thing, or she was the girl with long beautiful hair and was only cute because she had long beautiful hair. I admit I waited till after the play because I knew how cute she was with her hair after curlers and because her hair is so beautiful, but we don’t want her to think that all she has going for her is her long hair. There’s so much more to life and we want Lilah to define her own identity as she grows, not her identity define her. She was the cute girl with beautiful long hair, now she’s the cute girl with beautiful short hair and whatever else she wants to be.

Oh my goodness! Lilah is totally my hero! I’ve wanted to donate my hair to locks of love forever and I’ve never been able to grow it long enough. Curly hair takes forever to grow so I’ve been “growing it out” for years now and it seriously doesn’t go any longer. Then I did some research and found out that they can’t accept hair that has been colored. I stopped dying my hair over a year ago, but I still have like 10 years to go before it grows out long enough for me to donate! That’s so awesome that she was able to do something like this.

On the website it says they take colored or permed hair, just not bleached or highlighted. I’m trying to grow my hair out again and I’ve colored it so I hope they take it in 4 years, or however long it takes me to grow it out. (I think it took me around 2- 2 1/2 years and it was about this length when I started.)

It’s interesting how much older she looks all of a sudden.

I agree that she looks older. We like the after picture, and I think it would look fan-freakin’-tastic if you put the curlers in the short hair. Try it one day, just for me.

I LOVE the short hair. She is cute no matter what length it is. I showed her photos off at work and my co-workers agree that she is adorable.

She looks so cute but much older now. Amazing!

I’ll show the girls and they’ll no doubt say “she has hair like me!”

I just saw your comment about highlighting vs. coloring. If that’s the case I should be good.
Hmmm… Now I just have to convince my husband to like it short.
