Can I negotiate that?

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

Last week one of the counselors in the bishopric started talking to me in the hallway. I expected him to ask me to meet with him, since he had mentioned giving me a calling to Jon but Jon told him to just talk to me, instead he asked if I would be a teacher for the Sunday School and teach Gospel Essentials. I was caught off guard for a couple of reasons. One, it was in the hallway. Two, a sister in our ward was just called to be the Gospel Essentials teacher that day.
Our conversation went similar to this:

me: Gospel Essentials? Are you sure sister Burns was just called to that today?
him: Well, we’re thinking of having you team teach.
Subconsciously I respond with a slight frown because you don’t meet many people in Gospel Essentials and I really wanted a calling that would help me meet more people.
Him: Would you rather teach something else?
me: Well, I enjoy teaching Gospel Doctrine, but I can teach Essentials.
Another man in the ward: You know Sis. Koch could use some relief as Gospel Doctrine teacher.

It was just strange. He left knowing I would prefer teaching Gospel Doctrine and as I sat in class I felt really bad.

I had negotiated my calling.

I couldn’t find that counselor after class, but I found the other counselor and told him what happened. I let him know that I hadn’t meant to negotiate my calling, I was just a little confused at first, and that I’d be willing to teach Gospel Essentials.

Today I was called as Gospel Essentials teacher and another brethren was called as Gospel Doctrine teacher.

Funny kids.

“I don’t want to smell your bum!!” This is what Lilah was telling Eden when Eden wasn’t going to wear pajama pants to bed. By the way if we’re at home half the time she doesn’t wear pants during the day ’cause the whole potty training thing.

“I’m gonna throw you to the ceiling. Oops, I missed.” Eden said while throwing teddy into the air and then landed on the floor.

“I was frustrated.” Eden said this after being frustrated about something, I just thought it was cute.

“Anyways” How Eden closed a story she was telling me.

“Ey, yi yi.” Eden said this during a short awaking in the middle of her nap. I asked her why she said it and she told me she thought she was still at Britta’s but she was really home. (The girls had been there for 5 hours, two of which I was there talking with Sam, and Eden went down for her nap right after we got home.)

A little more chipper

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

I’m feeling a little more chipper today.
I’ve continued to organize my house, mostly our books. I played with Eden while Lilah sat on the toilet for like an hour and had a nice cup of iced chai green tea today after lunch. I’m feeling a little more myself.

Last night I gave Jon some alone time and took the girls to Britta’s dance recital. Britta wanted Lilah there when it was first announced and I knew that the Lee’s would also be in it so we went.

Lilah had fun. At times she was mimicking the dancers. I think she would like dance but I’m torn. I kinda like gymnastics but I also like dance, but with Eden approaching the age of being able to start classes we can’t afford $120 every 6 weeks to have them both in dance and gymnastics not to mention the cost of dance and tap shoes for Lilah and Eden once she turns five also.

In the fall Lilah can decide to do dance instead of gymnastics, Sam doesn’t teach during the summer, and we’ll see what Eden wants to do too.

I mentioned earlier that Lilah was on the toilet for like an hour this morning. I’m not exaggerating. I think she might have a UTI. She had to go to the bathroom 3 times during the one hour dance recital. Of course the second time nothing came out and the third time I made her go by herself so I’m not sure. Then during church on Sunday she went 4 times in the 3 hour block. I don’t know what’s going on with her.

I’m finally working with on Lilah writing her name properly. She can kinda right her name, but not properly.

She’s also read the first 4 Bob Books by herself. I’m making progress with her and even though I admit I’m not the most consistent, I think this homeschooling thing might work out OK for us.

Slump

So I have lots of things to blog about.

Kinda.

Like going to the Springs Preserve for Jon’s birthday, Mother’s Day and my almost finished, final set of curtains.

I just don’t feel like giving details, or I write details and they’re just not what I want to post.

I think I’m in a little blog/ everything funk. So pardon me while I don’t blog.

Excited

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Jon’s taking the last two weeks off in May….So we’re finally going to paint our bedroom! (Shh, don’t tell him or he may not take the time off.)

Now we’ve lived in the house for nearly three years and haven’t painted, even though the walls are not a bad color, they’re just not me and they’re the same in every room, except the bathrooms. (We’ve never painted because of the amount of stuff we have and it’s all heavy stuff.)

I’m so excited and overwhelmed at the same time.

Andrea and Brien have the exact pattern for their curtains as we do, and they did a blue in their room with an accent wall.

I’m also wanting to do blue. The curtains have an obviously green color to the pattern, with some blue, brown and cream, so I want blue, but I want a lighter blue then they have. Our room is usually on the darker side and the lighting has a tendency to yellow the room. I open the curtains during the spring, but not during the summer because it gets too hot.

So I’m mostly worried about how the lighting will affect the color of the room or the paint I pick.

I’ve also never painted.

I’m a little worried since I’ve never painted and I tend to be a perfectionist.

I will also be doing most of the work and Jon’s job will be to move his books and help me move any other heavy stuff and then to watch the girls.

I’m excited and nervous at the same time. Jon also wants an accent wall, but I’m just not sure what color I would do and which wall.

I also need to do tons more organizing so the room’s halfway neat before I move everything around, otherwise it will be total chaos during and after painting.

Luckily Jon’s also wanting to simplify our lives, to some degree, so we’re both allowing more purging to happen of ‘things we may need in the future, but are pretty cheap to replace so might as well let someone else use them if they need it now and get it out of our house’.

Like I swear he wanted us to keep our two desk lamps that were given as wedding presents and don’t match ’cause they were given by two different people and one we didn’t register for, but he says I wanted to keep them. Neither of us care now so it’s bye bye lamps, you’re taking up too much space and are only worth $15 when bought new anyways. OK, may they were worth more, but if we’re in this house for a long time we won’t need them and hopefully whatever house we move too won’t need them either.

I’ve got so much to do still.

In other good news. We might get the table that we refinished from his parents out and used. I found the brackets online that we need to set it up, we lost them somewhere along the way of refinishing and never setting it up, and now we just need to measure and order. That will free up space under our bed and in our closet! And then I can work on refinishing the chairs and we’ll have a descent looking table set. It’s only been nearly 4 four years since we’ve started this project. (I know we are such wonderful do it yourselfers.)

Works for me

Monday, May 5th, 2008

I have a niece who does Works for me Wednesdays, though it’s been a while since her classes have needed to come first and she was in Texas visiting family.

As I was getting my winter stuff put away I thought I’d share a tip of something I find works for me.

Whenever I buy things and they have a nice plastic zip cover I keep it and put my winter blankets or other seasonal stuff in them. This way dust is kept off them if they’re in the open, like the top bunk of the girl’s bed with other storage stuff, or they’re kept clean when on at the base of my hall closet where I also store my broom and the girls love to “sweep” so it’s not always carefully put back.

I was able to fit the top and bottom sheet of my flannel sheets back in there original case, but I use a plastic case from our car seat things to protect the set of our car from the car seats for the pillow cases.

I’ve got my girl’s Halloween bags nicely put away an another case from something.

My comforter doesn’t fit in the case it came in but it fits in the case that was for our mattress cover that I bought last year for our “new” bed.

The afghan/ blanket large enough to cover a full size bed that was a wedding gift made by my mother, fits in our case for the comforter.

And so forth.

It works for me.

Scar Back

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

I had Jon take a picture of my scar after my shower this morning.

I didn’t measure it, but I’m sure it’s over an inch in length.

Here’s a close up.

scar-5-2-08-02.jpg

You can see how it looks like I have a mole within that smaller scar to the bottom left and I do, hence the surgery coming up.

I just hate not being able to do anything for four weeks. (I know I have some family members who are in worse situations than me or similar because they can’t do things they wish, but it’s constant and not for just four weeks, but for years.)

If I don’t want to do anything I like it to be because of my own laziness and not because of a surgery.

I also remember how frustrating it was to depend on people since Eden was only a year old and still needed to be lifted in and out of her crib and into the high chair, handed to me to nurse, and changed.

I had some great friends who helped me and my mom came by when she could.

This time I have two older girls who don’t need lifted, except the toilet when we’re out and about and if Lilah’s already using the girl’s bathroom Eden needs help with our toilet. Also I’ll just have to get up earlier to allow the time it takes for them to do things on there own and leave a few minutes earlier so I can let Eden get into her seat by herself, instead of rushing her.

I only see time out being a problem. Kids never want to go to time out and mine are no different. I often have to carry them there or push them along by there back while they walk.

Plus it wasn’t just depending on others to help with the girls, it was not being able to do as much around the house and having to leave it for Jon that was also hard.

Patience. Pray for me to have patience.
