Is It Naptime Yet

…but not for me.

Jon’s had two moles removed, both precancerous, and one will need to be sutured, like mine.

We have it scheduled for the 25th. Four weeks after mine was performed, so I can technically do all my normal activities. It’s also the last Wednesday in June so her last operating day before July thus keeping it in this years deductible. (Our insurance goes by the fiscal year or renews in July.)

Jon’s suture will be in the middle of his back right on the spine. Such a fun place.

I told him I’d have to do all the heavy lifting and he said I might find out how little he does. 😉

He does help a lot in a lot of little ways so I’ll be on my own in a very big way after 3 to 4 weeks of doing very little. I did the dishes yesterday and today I’m already back to the ‘I don’t want to do dishes’ mode.

So much fun.

On Saturday we had Lilah’s fifth Birthday Party.

First, I have a five year old daughter. Yikes!

Second, the preparations started Friday. My good friend Sam volunteered to help me, well I asked and she said yes. She even went to the doctor Thursday to get pills to help her nausea from pregnancy so she would be feeling well enough to help poor crippled me on Friday.

We spent a lot of hours on Friday doing errands and getting ready at the house. The girls, or Lilah, Eden and Britta, kept themselves occupied and it went pretty smoothly. Sam also came early on Saturday to help. Luckily most of it was done on Friday, except the cake, which I finished on time only because everyone was late. Those who were there helped tidy up and get the food out.

Saturday was the big day. I ordered way too many pizzas, and everyone had fun swimming and the kids loved the pinata, at least as far as I could tell. I have a video of the pinata and the singing of happy birthday, but Google video is being weird and not working right now.

All the pictures are of the kids swimming because I took those and Jon uses the video part of the camera for everything. Supposedly I can freeze shots for pictures, but I don’t know how to do that. I think we just need a DVD recorder  and a regular camera for pictures.
He did take a picture of the cake that I designed and made. I’m pretty proud of myself.

Everyone but those who were very early arrived at 12:30, opposed to noon the planned starting time. We ate and let the kids play. Then the kids hit the pinata. After the pinata we sang Happy Birthday and had Lilah open presents. Then people went swimming. After swimming people had cake and ice cream and left when they were ready.

Almost everyone took home half to a whole pizza. I ordered 10 pizzas and we had 6 left over. ( I did the math and should have ordered 6. 4 for the adults and 2 for the kids. Jon thought I might need more for the adults so that stuck in my head. I then heard from my SIL that she and her husband would be coming. Somehow I thought I was planning on ordering 8 total (6 for the adults and 2 for the kids.) and since Jon thought I needed more I made the 8 an even 10. )

I gave pizza and cake as parting gifts for all who would take any and we still had 2 pizzas left over for ourselves. I decided it was only fair to give those who came another meal since they all had to drive so far.

Lilah was kicking around the pool a lot. I was impressed because this was her first time swimming since last year.

Lilah loved the party and said her favorite part was the balloons. She carried them around until people started coming and then I put them on the table.  I think everyone could have just given her balloons for her birthday and she would have been a happy camper. I’m happy I asked Carolyn to pick some up when she got the ice cream that morning.

Sunday was a crazy morning. I had Lilah’s birthday party on Saturday, blog post to come, and a lesson to prepare for Sunday. Laundry hadn’t been done due to my shoulder and so we washed whites that morning. I had to wait for my garment top but once  dry I was able to get dressed and I focused my energy on getting the girls out the door. Then I realized it.

I didn’t have a bra on.

I almost went to church not wearing a bra.

I’m sure it’s easier to overlook this when you’re small like me but I did notice a difference in the way my dress hung and that prompted the bra check.  My wonderful husband, the irreverent man that he is, thought it would be “awesome”. Silly men.

I do online surveys and today was my first survey since turning 25.

I had to check a new box.

I’m no  longer in the early twenties, late teens, or 18-24 box.

I’m getting older, but it’s strange because I still identify myself as being only 23 or so.

What takes 3 days and 8 hours to create?

The best home made Finding Nemo Pinata ever! I think it’s the best anyways.

It took 2 days to do two layers of papier mache. The first taking about 1 1/2 hours and the second taking 1 hour, each with 24 hours to dry.

Then I also had to make the fins, which took about 30 minutes to cut out and figure a way to attach to the balloon covered in papier mache. (Painters tape works well, not plastic packing tape.)

I spent about 4 hours decorating it.

This is one of those times being a perfectionist is not good.

And I could have bought this one for $10 on sale at Target, but why spend $10 to break something if you have yourself and time to kill.  (Really I was just being cheap.)

My aching back is telling me the moral of the story is $10 on sale or even $12 full price is so worth it for a pinata.

I was flipping channels last night and I came across the 10 o’clock news on a local station. They were doing a story about a 4 year old boy who was found dead in the family’s SUV Monday morning. I usually do not watch these stories but I stayed tuned to see if it was in my area, because 2/3rds of all things negative happen in like  a 2 mile radius down the major streets we live by. Seriously, at least once a week I see a shooting, robbery or some sort of violent crime in our area on the news. Anyways they showed the cross streets and then the picture and name of the young boy.

I knew him.

He was the youngest son to a family in our previous ward. He was born a year or so before we moved to our current home.

Jon was on the couch and I shook him awake to tell him.

I was shocked. The news anchor mention how the investigation was still on it’s way and how they did not know if it was an accident or if child abuse was involved.

Knowing the family I’m pretty sure it wasn’t abuse but neglect. They must have forgotten him somehow  or thought the other parent or even an older sibling was taking care of him in the busyness of life with eight children.

I feel so sad for this family.

I’m watching Jack.

Jack is my BIL Brien’s Jack Russell. Andrea and Brien are at a dentist appointment and wanting to leave town afterwards so I’m watching him. He’s a great dog and actually very patient with kids, even though he doesn’t always play with them since they can’t throw far or play tug a war.

Lilah played with him Saturday night and he seemed to enjoy it and she was more fearless. She actually would pick up the ball from him instead of waiting for us to get it for her.

Well, I played a little outside with Jack, but I can’t do tug a war so I’ve left him to the girls. Eden’s following him around and playing with his tail. I really can’t believe how patient he is with the girls and he hasn’t nipped at them once.

Lilah’s tried to play fetch with him today, but he only has his rope and our yard is smaller so she can’t throw as far for fear of throwing it over the fence.  I’m surprised he hasn’t nipped at her because he will at adults who try to take the rope. He just seems to understand that they’re kids and not to nip them.

He’s actually a pretty low key Jack Russell. He still has lots of energy and runs around, but he’s not as hyper as most.

I would also have Zarina except my shoulder doesn’t allow me right now, so I’m a little bummed. Luckily they’ll have to visit and play with Jack to get some of his energy out for the trip home.

She is so cute and chubby. She’s almost as cute as my girls were, and she behaves just as well. 😉
I’m sad that she’s far away, but always happy to see her and her parents when we can.

Saturday was a pretty busy day. It wasn’t that busy but it was still a lot for a Saturday for our little family.

Lilah had a primary activity that morning. I was kinda slow at getting ready so we were a little late. They were playing water games. Lilah hurt her fingers while they did a giant water balloon toss, as in it was a giant water balloon getting tossed over a net and being caught by the kids holding nets. Her and the other little kids played for a while and then decided it was too much so they came over and squeezed water from sponges into a bucket.

Then they did a game with passing the soaked filled sponges down the row to fill the bucket. Poor Lilah got soaked and was freezing since they were in the shade. She came to get warm before the game was over because she was shivering and not having much fun, even though had she been warm I’m sure it would have been fun.

Britta saved Lilah a seat by her so they ate lunch together. It was a fun morning. I stayed at the activity because I just hate to leave her there for some reason. I know she’d be fine and get by without me, but I just like staying and watching and helping if I can.

We came home and I tried to get Eden down early for her nap, but she still fell asleep around 2. I put on a movie for Lilah and Jon went grocery shopping. Right after I put on a movie the girl from across the street, or Jessica, came over. They’ve been playing together a lot and even though I tried to say now wasn’t a good time it was too hard to say no and I let her in. (She’ll just stand there and wait sometimes.) Shortly after her older brother, around 7 or 8, came by and they started playing with the blocks and different toys. They stayed pretty quiet because I asked them to since Eden was asleep, but poor Lilah couldn’t hear her movie and she just wasn’t interested in playing. Jessica kept asking when Eden was gonna wake up so I had to keep telling her that it would be a while and once Eden woke up we would be leaving anyways.

Eventually the brother left and then Jessica.

We got ready for our date and woke Eden up so we could take the girls to a BBQ and leave them with Carolyn to be babysat.

We got there, said hello, ate and then left to see Iron Man. I wasn’t sure if I was gonna like it, but mostly because I couldn’t see Robert Downy Jr. as a super hero, but I loved Iron Man and highly recommend it. Just make sure to stay till the very end of the credits.

We stopped off at Coldstone on the way back to my parents, where Carolyn had taken my girls, and then chatted with family and got the girls.

Funny things about the BBQ.

It was a work BBQ for Carolyn and families were invited. My mom went because she was invited since she’s worked there as a receptionist for Carolyn’s part of the office. We were invited because the women at the front desk love my girls. They had a jumper or bouncy thing and there had been some older boys and kids playing in it for a while. They were being quite rough and the girls and other little kids had wanted in. Carolyn told them to get out so some little kids could go in and so they got out and then got their parents. She told the parents that they boys were being too rough and had been in for a long time and needed to get out so some little kids could play in it. I just love Carolyn because I don’t know if I could have done that.

The girls were also given suckers as they were leaving the BBQ. Lilah had eaten hers and was blowing air through the stick. I guess Eden asked what she was doing or what it was and Lilah told her it was a whistle. Eden said she was smoking hers. Lilah told her it’s not nice to smoke but Eden insisted that she was smoking her sucker stick. I’m not sure where she got that idea.

In April we went up to Utah for my cousins wedding.

The girls love her and had so much fun rubbing her head, holding her hands, letting her touch them and touch their soft dresses.
It was too cute and that is why I have a lot of pictures from it and a video.

I love the last two because of Lilah’s smile and then in the last one you, or at least I, can tell that Eden has a smile on her face.
