I knew him.

I was flipping channels last night and I came across the 10 o’clock news on a local station. They were doing a story about a 4 year old boy who was found dead in the family’s SUV Monday morning. I usually do not watch these stories but I stayed tuned to see if it was in my area, because 2/3rds of all things negative happen in like¬† a 2 mile radius down the major streets we live by. Seriously, at least once a week I see a shooting, robbery or some sort of violent crime in our area on the news. Anyways they showed the cross streets and then the picture and name of the young boy.

I knew him.

He was the youngest son to a family in our previous ward. He was born a year or so before we moved to our current home.

Jon was on the couch and I shook him awake to tell him.

I was shocked. The news anchor mention how the investigation was still on it’s way and how they did not know if it was an accident or if child abuse was involved.

Knowing the family I’m pretty sure it wasn’t abuse but neglect. They must have forgotten him somehow¬† or thought the other parent or even an older sibling was taking care of him in the busyness of life with eight children.

I feel so sad for this family.
