The first day of the rest of my life.

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

If you’ve known me for any length of time, you probably know I’m a nail biter.
I try not to bite my nails in public, but when I’m home and I’m bored, relaxing or even reading I bite my nails.
I’ve bitten my nails for as long as I can remember. I remember as a child my mom putting nail polish on my fingers to make them taste disgusting.

In short it didn’t work.

I remember biting my nails and then spitting until the gross flavor was out of my mouth and then biting again and spitting.
I’ve tried to stop but it’s never lasted long. For some weird reason I actually enjoy biting my nails.
Well, because of my wonderfully disgusting habit in the past I’ve chipped both my bottom front teeth. Yesterday the filling for the left tooth came out, and about a week ago a small layer or chip of my right tooth came off.
So now I must stop biting my nails.
It’s so obviously affecting the health of my teeth and in the end will cost a lot more money if I continue.
So today is the first day of seriously never biting my nails again.
I think I need some nasty tasting nail polish to remind me not to bite and nail clippers in my pocket so I cut the nails instead of bite them.

Date night

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

Last night we went out.
We ate at Sweet Tomatoes had a great time talking and stuffing ourselves full of soup and salad.
We walked to the car and then our car wouldn’t start.
Luckily we have AAA so they got there within 15 minutes and checked out the battery. It was the battery and so he got us started.
He informed us that the battery is bad and not to turn off the car until we got it to where it needed to be because it wasn’t going to start again.
So Jon waited in the car while I got the girls from my sister and Eden stood outside their door yelling “Daddy!” while she was waiting.
It was cute.
Sure enough once we turned off the car at home, it wouldn’t start.
Jon is out getting a battery right now.

Since we wanted to do more than just have dinner we joked that one of us could sit in the car while the other went into a store or did something, but we obviously just decided to pick up the girls and go home.

Moral of the story: I love AAA.

Hello, Hello!

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

So lately Jon’s cell has been calling people. We think it started about a month ago when we got a message from my friend Barbara about receiving a call from our cell. Then it was Jon’s mom and yesterday it was me and my sister Andrea, with other random calls placed in between I’m sure. Because of the phone call Andrea overheard our very private conversation about Raisin Bran raisins having too much sugar on them. I guess Jon’s cell actually called her about 5 times. Then for some reason her phone calls can’t get through to our regular line, they get blocked, so she had to call our mom to have my mom call me and tell me to call my sister.
So if you’ve received any strange phone calls where no one says hello back it might have been Jon, not some weird stalker.
He thinks he locks the keypad, but he’s not sure. So we’re not sure if it’s the phone being weird or him, but I deleted all contacts from his cell phone so now it will be random strangers being called.

Purge

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

We had a great Christmas.
I’ll post about it later.
Today I am getting rid of stuff and making room for new stuff.
(I got a new pot and pan set from Jon so I’m getting rid of what I had before and a little more because I’m purging.)
So this might seem weird, but I figure if you’re in the Las Vegas area and would like any of the following I will give it to you for free rather then taking it to DI.

So we have old pot and pans.
Really the saute pans are shot.
The large pot has been used a handful of times
The two sauce pans are both in OK shape.
I know exciting.
They are some brand you find at target and have Teflon lining and have been used for nearly 6 years. (I can’t believe I’ve been married nearly 6 years.)

With my pot and pan set I also got a large family skillet so I’m getting rid of this one too.
Like the pot it has only been used a handful of times.
It’s at least 12 inches in diameter, possible 14, and like 3ร‚ย  inches deep.
Also with a Teflon like lining.

Then there are these dishes.
I also got these from my wedding and I thought maybe as I got older I would use them for things like Thanksgiving dinner or whatever.
Really they’re just not my taste.
Never used.
The close up is the fruit detail that’s on the pans.

Let me know, if any of you want my clutter.

Shopping

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

My dad gave me a couple cards for Mervyn’s that gave me $10 off every $20 I spent and they expired today so I thought I’d go and get some good use out of them.
I bought a couple things for myself, clothes to give for the ward’s angel tree child I chose, a shirt for my SIL Dara and a gift card for my nieces in Utah. I also found a jumper in size 5 for Lilah next year at $5, down from $22.
I spent $45 or so and saved around $90.
It was nice.
I then went to Payless because it looked like they were having a sale and they were so I bought some cute shoes for Eden, since I couldn’t find any in her size at Mervyn’s. They are adorable. In the picture they’re not as cute as they are on her foot.

We then went to Mc Donald’s for some good ole fun and food that’s bad for you.
My girls drank all their chocolate milk, ate about three fries each and some of their chicken nuggets before they went off to play.
While I watched them play this couple came and sat in the booth next to the table I was at.
He was very friendly and when I was getting Eden’s jacket on to leave he asked what color my eyes were and to see them.
I said hazel green and he complemented me on the color and then said how beautiful Eden’s eyes were.
He was African American, though I admit I just say black cause I’m not politically correct, and he said how he always wanted a blue eyed child. We debated whether that’s possible since he’s black, even with a blue eyed partner. Though my parents have brown and green eyes and two of my sisters have blue. I said how I want a green eyed girl like myself but I so far I’ve gotten two blue eyed girls.
He tried to get the girls to smile and kinda succeeded with Eden and I had the girls wave goodbye as we left.

I got home to my loot and realized that somehow I didn’t purchase the two pairs of pants I intended to for Eden. I must have carried them around, but somehow they didn’t make it into my basket or I set them down. I’m not sure. Maybe I just looked at them as I was debating which size to buy.
I thought maybe I was charged for them and they never made it into the bag, but according to the receipt I just didn’t buy them.

Knowing my mother had two more coupons for the spend $20 get $10 off I called her to see if she had used them, since they expired today. She said no so I figured I could go pick them up and use them to buy a few things and get us out of the house so Jon could study this evening.
Have I mentioned tomorrow is his final and I will be so happy to be over with this class? It’s taken more concentration for him and thus made it harder on me because I either have to keep the girls from bothering him, or myself, while he’s studying at home or go somewhere. I think we’ll save some money on gas once he’s done.
Anyways I went and truely spent about $13 for the two pants, but I bought Christmas gifts for the grand kids from my mom. Like Pajama’s and dresses for my two girls. She reimbursed me to where I spent $15, I guess tax factors in. So in reality had I just waited until tomorrow I would have saved money in gas and even spent less because everything is suppose to be 50% of tomorrow, where as the pants were 40% off today. But I think my time in shopping for my mom helped and it’s sometimes a hit and miss with what dresses she gets the girls. Most have been very cute, but some have been my mom’s taste and not mine. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I got the girls home around 9, their bedtime is 8. We got them into bed about 9:45 pm because we were all fascinated with the PBS show. It was a self made documentary made in the 70’s of a man in Alaska building his log cabin by himself with hand tools. Totally cool. Totally time and labor intensive, though if you know what you’re doing things go smoothly I’m sure.

It’s now very late and I still have one more post to write.

Maybe I’ll get some cleaning done tomorrow.

Yearly truffle making

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

So I did popcorn on Sunday night and the truffles today. The girls were actually pretty good and only in the afternoon was the TV on.
Lilah liked to watch me do things and was there to lick up any stray chocolate that got on the counter.
At one point she was relieved of her chocolate counter licking duty when she was getting in the way and trying to lick things like the spoon I still needed. She wasn’t too happy. Plus I’m not having her take regular naps so she becomes pretty sensitive.

So I made about 150 truffles.
Yeah.
Craziness.
I did have some difficulty when a batch of the candy melts were terrible and not looking nice as the coated the truffle. It had an oily separated look, so I made a lot of chocolate covered almonds with that chocolate and a went through a few bowls trying to figure out what was wrong.
Jon has 25 things of chocolate covered popcorn and 25 bags of truffles, each containing one of each truffle I made, and I did 5 kinds.
He has a lot of people at work to give them to. The list became so long because Jon would want to give some to a person in one office but they share the office with other people he knows and somewhat works with so he feels obligated to give a some to the whole office. Hopefully he has enough. He gave me 22 names and he has 3 to work with.

I’m just happy the day is over and the dishes are washed. (All our bowls had been used so I had to do dishes tonight so we could have something to eat from tomorrow.)

For tomorrow Christmas shopping and cutting out snowflakes for our window.

Weekend

Sunday, December 9th, 2007

This weekend we kept out of Jon’s hair so he could study and write his term paper. (Something that is hard to do at a library and nicer to do from home, but as he said, he can’t study with kids around and admires those who can. Thanks honey.)
Lilah had a primary activity in the morning on Saturday so I just went and took Eden along.
We were in a group of mostly boys between the ages of 8-11. Some girls were added later on, also between 8 and 11, but I was glad that I stayed so Lilah didn’t get lost in all the traveling to room to room.
After the activity we came home and ate lunch.
Once Carolyn got off of work we went to her house to make some cookies. ( I invited myself and the girl’s on Friday knowing that Jon would need space.)
We made some carrot cake cookies, very yummy and some sugar cookies.
The girls were good at rolling the cake cookies.
We let the girls decorate their own sugar cookie and eat it. After watching them decorate their own cookie I decided Carolyn and I should do the rest.
(Lilah was piling all our white frosting on her snowman. We had to take some away to have any for the other snowmen and snowflakes.)
I do have a few pictures, but since my hands were mostly dirty I didn’t take any.
I mostly wanted to get the cookies made and clean up so we wouldn’t be there too late.

These pictures are by Carolyn.

A chair after Lilah was helping to make cookies.

Carolyn and the girls played while I got frosting made and the sugar cookies ready to cut out.

Where’s Lilah.

They loved what Carolyn’s couch did to their hair.

Today we’ve been home. Jon came home after Sacrament and had those two hours to himself.
I took a nap while Eden was taking hers and Lilah stayed up and watched a movie while Jon studied.

Tomorrow I’m making truffles. A lot of truffles so the girls will probably be glued to the TV, fighting, or possibly getting along with one another in their bedroom, but probably making a mess in the process.

It should be interesting.

Field Trip

Friday, November 30th, 2007

Yesterday we went to the Anderson Dairy factory, where they package milk, cottage cheese and ice cream.
It was fun for the most part.
The girls got lots of ice cream, the scoop was rather big, and I only let them eat half because it was before lunch.
Lilah liked the fog that they had and the talking animals.
Afterwards we to to CiCi’s pizza where they have a pizza buffet with salad. I’ve never been but it wasn’t bad.
I was with Sam and Britta and Emily and her two daughters, Katia and Isabell, and we saw one other mom from our group with her two kids and husband, Crystal.
Afterwards we went to Goodwill where I got a new, never used, shelf for the girls room for $12. I don’t think I’d pay more than that for it, though I’m sure it was more like $20 at Target.

It was a fun day but while waiting to take the tour Eden scared me.
All the kids were playing and her and another boy ran into one another or something happened where she got knocked down. He was cute and gave her a kiss and I ran over to comfort her.
I’m not sure if she was crying at this point, but she did have a sad face on. I picked her up and I remember waiting for the loud yell of her cry. Children get so upset that they’re silent and then you get the loud cry. Well as I was waiting for it I cuddled her into me for a brief few seconds and then she pushed away from me, arched her back and I think went unconscious for a little bit.
It freaked me out because she was not her normal self and I saw her eyes gloss over.
I started to cradle her and said that something was wrong with Eden and Crystal, another mom, started saying her name to get her attention and she took her to bring her straight up.
She just lost her breath and passed out for a few seconds but it was freaky and it was the first time anything like this has happened to me.
She was fine and just wanted to cuddle and was back to her normal self by the time we went on the tour.

Is there something on my face?

Monday, November 19th, 2007

So as I’m shopping I notice a couple of people look at me funny and I realize it’s my gigantic cold sore.
It’s in the starting to scab over and turn brown stage, so it’s not very pretty at all.

I got a lot done today in shopping but I burned about $12 because I left my Sterilite containers in the bottom part of my Target shopping cart and of course they weren’t there when I went back a couple hours later and no one had turned anything in.
I was going to buy 2 more, but I just felt bad and didn’t want to spend any more money since I had already spent a lot at two grocery stores. (More than what we had left in the food budget, though it was the diapers that killed us.)

I’m sad that people don’t return things to the store that were obviously left behind.
I’m sad that I spent a part of my allowance for next month, even though the shirt and sweater were on clearance.

We’re not hard up for money so that’s not what’s bothering me.
I just have finally come to a point where I had the thought today that I’d rather go home and make lunch rather then buy it because that $12 could go towards one of our savings projects. (As I just read this I realized maybe it was the spirit knowing I’d be a ditz and loose $12 in Sterilite containers. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) Though I was not thinking that way when I bought my shirts, but I figured it was my allowance not just miscellaneous money I would be spending.
I think I’m PMSing also so losing the Sterilite containers has gotten me in a funk.

I am happy because I’ll be getting my hair cut tomorrow. I wanted it cut before the Holidays and she had one last appointment left.
I only called her Friday, so I feel very lucky to get in because I usually have to wait a week or two.
So I’ll have great hair for Thanksgiving, but not the greatest face.

Working from home

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Today Jon is working from home. UNLV is hosting a Democratic debate and they asked that any staff who can work from home to do so.
It’s also a test run to see how it would work out if he was able to work from home. Something his manager is trying to do for him and her.
It would be Thursday. Lilah’s class day which means a guaranteed 2 hour time block of no kids and then the regular nap, which sometimes works out.
I’ll tell you the one thing that kills me is not having access to my computer when I want access and only having limited time.
I would love him home, though it would take getting use to. Not bothering Daddy can be pretty hard for our girls and even me.
Also how lazy would I feel if he was working and I didn’t want to do chores so I just sat on the couch or took my regular nap while he worked.
He said I should save the chores for Thursday so I can keep busy while he’s around and not need the computer as much.

It would be fun to have him work form home. Heck if it saves us just a little in gas money and gives us more time, theoretically, with him it makes it worth it.
But oh to have another person on my computer all day and infringing on my space, and not being able to lend a hand whenever I want. That’s a little tough.
I dream for the day where we have at least 4 bedrooms or an area for an office so he could be away from it all, but for now he’s the middle of everything while working.
I love him, but it’ll take some adjusting if he is able to work from home regularly on Thursdays.

My time is up. Lilah is lying on Daddy as he rest on the couch and Eden is yelling for candy.
