Ticklish

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

We’re watching the Olympic Mens gymnastics. Kevin Tan, for team USA, was doing the rings and Lilah declares:

“I really want to tickle his armpits.”

I asked why and she replied:

“They look ticklish.”

We do a lot of arm pit tickling in this house.

Obsessed

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Lilah’s been obsessed with Jack, Andrea and Brien’s dog. We’re going to be camping with them later this month and since it’s on the horizon, still far away, but close enough that all she can think about is Andrea, Brien, Ely, camping, and Jack.

Case in point. She wrote this letter to Jack last week.

She wrote this letter to Andrea and Brien the same day. Well I wrote it but she dictated it to me.

She drew this picture for Andrea and Brien while at Grandma Blake’s on Friday.

That’s Andrea and Brien in the upper right corner.  She’s writing “It’s Lilah” on all of them.

She drew this picture during sacrament on Sunday.

She drew these Monday.

Before Lilah added the spots Eden told her “That’s a cute mouse Lilah.”

She also had me write a letter to her friend Britta about how Jack is so nice to kids and she should meet Jack. I didn’t get a copy of that one though.

I’m enjoying her art and her willingness to start writing letters and words. I’m happy she’s writing any letters and trying to write new words.

This is pencil.

Yeah, I guess we need to work with sounding out words, but I’m happy she tried, and I was sleeping so she wasn’t able to ask me.

It was a hint to Eden that she needed to find the pencil so she could find the pictures Lilah had drawn for her while she had taken her nap.

I’m loving her new love of drawing and writing.
(Did you notice the dog, even in a picture for her sister.)

Yogrit… it’s so tasty.

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

Eden says yogrit, instead of yogurt. And she eats Daddy’s yogrit, which is plain not even vanilla flavored, with a sprinkle of wheat germ and raisins.

Hey, she likes it and it’s a lot cheaper than my taste of yogurt, which I found out has high fructose corn syrup. 🙁

So this morning after she asked for “yogrit” I asked if she could say yo-gurt. She tried but didn’t really get it. Lilah also tried and got it. She also says yogrit and I think it’s because of Eden. I even find myself saying yogrit sometimes.

I digress.

After I had her try to say yogurt, Eden then started asking me if I could say things.

Eden: Can you say cup?
Me: Cup.
Eden: Good Job!

Eden: Can you say washcloth?
Me: Washcloth.
Eden: Good Job!

She went on with a few more objects and then finally decided I knew enough words.

I wonder what else she’ll teach me?

Eden’s video

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

So, I actually forgot to make Eden’s video for her birthday. (I think it was lost in my mind somewhere.) So, today I made the video celebrating her first three years of life, though half of it is pictures from her first year. (She was such a a cute baby.)

Since I’ve made a few of these some of the pictures will be duplicates, but what can you say, if it’s a cute picture it’s a cute picture.
And the song is the same one I used for Lilah’s, but I love it too much and have not found another song that I like better.

Eden watched the video twice tonight and enjoyed it. I’m just happy she’s young enough to not care that it’s a little late.

I’ll post events and pictures from the birthday celebrations later.

Where does the time go?

Monday, July 28th, 2008

For one of the the first times in my life, I’m really busy, or at least a lot busier than I would like to be and on a regular basis, at least for the time being.

Last week was a little crazy. We had swimming lessons, visiting Jon’s parents, a new class for Lilah, shopping for Eden’s friend party, Eden’s friend party, Eden Day at Chuck E’ Cheese and then Saturday, which was spent doing random things while I waited for the thunderstorm to pass so I could turn on the computer to work on my lesson for Sunday and the FHE lesson for my family, which was Sunday afternoon.

It’s been a little chaotic around here.

Yesterday was the climax of everything and today I decided to do the things that have been driving me up the wall.

Our house has been super cluttered lately with the new gifts coming in, stuff we buy, and then the regular papers and things that are already piled up. Worst of all my floors were so gross that I, myself, had just stopped sweeping because what’s the point when cupcake or bread crumbs will just continue to flow to the floor after each meal and the spots on the floor just match the crumbs. It wasn’t totally disgusting, but it was really bothering me. Jon could have cared less, or he said it wasn’t that bad.

So today I did stuff. Lots of stuff. I cleaned my kitchen, mostly, which included really cleaning the sink, not just a wipe down after doing dishes. Cleaning my stove top and wiping down counters. I got the crayon that had transferred from Britta’s seat out of the head rest and now I just have to clean the seat and my drivers side mat from when I stepped in gum.
I organized some bookshelves so I could find a place to store the puzzles Eden got from Carolyn and I organized the girls toy shelves to make room for new things. I read stories, got  Eden down for her nap, I got a short nap, Lilah no nap even though she’s been up since 5:30 am.

I’ve also vacuumed my living room rug and mopped my floors. Lilah said I shouldn’t wear dirty shoes on the clean floor, but I’m pretty sure her feet are just has dirty as my shoes. Having dirty floors and piles of books and toys waiting for a spot was really stressful on me. Especially the dirty floors.

Now that I’ve had a good day of cleaning I feel prepared for the busy week ahead with more swimming lessons, a class for Lilah, a trip to the mechanic, and needing to go help my in-laws, which will be on a regular basis, or should be.

Luckily gymnastics is done till September. I’m hoping I get get Eden poop trained by the time it starts.

Where does the time go?

Odd things.

Jon crocheted me a shawl for our first Christmas. It was funny because I thought he was a total nerd. He would crochet while at work as a lab worker on campus. (So he would be surrounded by other college students and be crocheting as he sat at his station until someone needed help.) He carried around a bag with yarn and would pull it out when he had nothing to do.
He made me the shawl because I was always cold at church. I brought it a few times, but it wasn’t really my style, it’s more my mom’s style, or grandma. 😉
It works wonderfully as a personal blanket during winter months, so it does get used.
I was cold  this Sunday at church, as usual.  Later that day we were cuddling on the couch and he asked me about bringing my shawl to church.

I replied it wasn’t really my style.

He told me someday I’d grow into it.

Today while in the car I sat in the backseat with Lilah. We had a rough time getting out of the house and Lilah wanted cuddles, so Jon drove and I was chauffeured around.

Lilah made the observation that if we had a third baby we wouldn’t be able to take Carolyn to Utah with us. So we shouldn’t have a third child.

I guess I should go get my tubes tied now.

Crush

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

I think Eden may have a crush on Derek, my sister Carolyn’s husband.
Lilah got a play phone as a birthday present and Eden will call Derek or Carolyn on the phone.

Lately it’s just been Derek.

Then today while at the store we were getting things for Eden’s friend party and Eden asked if Derek would be there. She seemed a little sad when I sad no, he would be working. I tried to tell her that he would be at FHE for another birthday celebration.

It’s just funny because Eden is quiet with Derek, but always happy to give the hug goodbye, though she gives anyone a hug goodbye if we tell her and is pretty quiet with everyone lately now that I think about it.

Derek is also a pretty quiet person, but he is friendly with our girls and always says hello and tries to play with them in his quiet way. (He’s not one of those people who does silly things or tickles kids a lot to get them to smile or laugh. He just talks  and lightly tickles and my girls just stare, because well, they stare at everyone, like our mail lady today, and aren’t overly friendly or happy unless they’re in a good mood or know you really well. I could count on one hand the people they’re automatically friendly or themselves with, and yes two of them are Jon and me.)

At least she likes him and wants him around.

You’re fat!

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

It was after dinner a few nights ago and Eden started talking about her toes being skinny and asking if my toes were skinny.

After a little bit it appeared that she didn’t know what skinny was so I was trying to explain by using the opposite of skinny, fat.

Then Eden told me I was fat.

Thanks babe.

Busy, busy.

Monday the girls went over to Sam’s house to play with Britta. I was talking to Sam that morning and mentioned that I was going to be sewing all day. She said I should just bring the girls over for a couple of hours so I could sew and Britta could be occupied and have fun. I took her up on the offer and dropped them off that morning.

I got the pattern and fabric to make these dresses back in May, possibly April. With not being able to lift anything I couldn’t work on them in May.(I sew at my kitchen table so I’d have to pick up and put away the sewing machine.) Plus my shoulder seemed to be bothered easily so I didn’t sew.

Life has been busy so I still didn’t sew once I got the OK two weeks ago.

Sunday the home teachers were suppose to come over so I cleaned my house and tidied up, something that I would have normally left till Monday. The one who made the appointment must have forgotten because they never came.

So Monday morning my house looked pretty descent and I didn’t have much to do so I sewed. I sewed all day long with the normal breaks and was able to finish Eden’s dress that evening. (I did French seams and basically I sew the dress twice so the fabric is enclosed and doesn’t fray.)

Tuesday we went and saw Enchanted at a local theater that does free movies for kids on certain days. It was so cute and is on my to buy list. I also ran by the DI and found a VCR for $5. Ours had broken and though most of our movies are DVD’s we do have some videos that I have wanted to watch but haven’t been able to, plus when we check out from the library kids video’s always work, where as only 1 in 4 kids DVD’s work.

I also did some shopping at Target and Smith’s.

Wednesday was another sewing day. I was also potty training Eden in the very active way. (Setting the timer and putting her on the toilet every 45 minutes.) She went poop in the pull-up right after her nap, before I could get her to the toilet. She just doesn’t seem to be getting it.

Wednesday was a hard day at times. Lilah hates time out and will not stand in time out, thus not beginning her time out, for like 5 minutes and only when I force her to stand there does she. I don’t know what to do with her at times.

I finished Lilah’s dress late in the morning today since I was also watching a movie from Netflix. They had their first swimming lessons today, thus why I needed them done by today, at least in my mind. I’m using them as cover ups for their swimsuits. This way I can change them into dry clothes and underwear after we’re in the pool. Plus they’re cute and I needed to get them done since the summer is half over already.

They did well for their first swimming lessons. Eden only worked with the young woman for 15 minutes because she just wasn’t wanting to follow directions. Neither of them put their head completely under water and it was a bit of a bust at times, but they enjoyed just playing after the lesson was officially over.

We’re taking them from a former lifegaurd/ swim teacher that was referred to me by a friend. It’s $50 for four 1 hour sessions. (At one point she had said $25, but that was just for one child at 4 half hour lessons, we had gotten confused on the phone.)

It’s more expensive than the community pool, but those are  larger classes, we’d have to pay for the lesson plus admission for the pool for each class and both of us would need to be there so one of us could take care of one girl. It is comparable to the community pool after the extra expenses. Plus they each get one on one time with the teacher and it’s at the time we want it, not the community pool time.

I think Lilah really enjoyed it, but Eden may not be quite ready. Hopefully she’ll get more comfortable with getting water on her face, as will Lialh, I hope. I think I’m going to buy some goggles for them to help encourage going under water.

And here they are in my creations.

Awareness

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

In our house we have a specific bath routine. I watch and bathe the girls. Eden is the first one out and I give her to Jon to dry her and get her diaper, now pull-up on. Then Lilah is washed and has to get herself dried and dressed.

Lately when I’ve bathed them it’s been during the day so I’ve helped Eden. She was confused the first time and asked for Daddy, but he was at work.

Saturday night I bathed and got Eden out of the tub and walked her to Daddy.

Jon took her to the bedroom to dry off, and get the pull-ups on but Eden was being aware of her body and told Jon, “You can’t see my genitals.”

Jon saw that Eden wanted her privacy so he told her to put on her pull-up and come out when she needed more help getting dry or her pajamas on.

Eden came out just a few short seconds after Jon still wrapped in the towel, so Jon asked her if she had her pull-ups on, and she didn’t, so he told her to go get some on.

When she walked down the hallway her towel was low and her little bum was hanging out.

We thought it a little ironic.

I guess we all have similar bums, even if we look different up front.
