Toys

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

My girls don’t have a lot of toys. But they’ve slowly been disappearing and some of their books have too.
Why, you ask.
Well they haven’t been cleaning up after they decide to pile as many toys and books as they can get past me onto Eden’s bed.
Then after they have piled so many toys or books we make them clean them up and sometimes they don’t want too. I know shock little kids not wanting to pick up after themselves. The problem comes because 8 time out of 10 Eden has to be put into timeout just so she will begin cleaning up. Then once you mention clean up Lilah decides she’s tired, her arms are tired, her legs are tired, some thing is always tired. So we fight with them and hover over them to clean up the mess they’ve made. We’ve just started setting the timer and then taking away whatever they don’t put away.

It started about a week ago when Lilah did this to our couch.

couchtoys.jpg

Literally every child book we had was on the couch and nearly every toy. Jon had let her do this because when we try to limit what they take they complain, so he wanted Lilah to understand the consequences of piling everything together. Jon gave her a half hour to clean it up but mostly she just whined. We got a box and put all the toys and books that didn’t get put away in it and and put it in our closet. The box is big, something I got from Costco and is bigger than a laundry basket.

Today it was toys on Eden’s bed. They hadn’t heeded to Jon’s first attempts to ask them to clean up so Jon set the timer. Lilah had to go to the bathroom and you could hear her saying loudly how she didn’t care for the toys and didn’t want her stuff animals. Then when I went in there to wash hands it was all about how much she loved them and wanted to take care of them.
Eden did a lot of the cleaning up, so thanks to little sister Lilah has more toys and books to look at.
After the 15 minutes was up we put the few things left into another box to go into our closet.
I was going to give the big box of toys back this week, after a week of being taken away, but one, the girls have seemed to forget about them and two, they make big enough messes without those toys.
I’ll probably sort the toys out later this week, maybe Sunday after I have the baby shower and my lesson taught. I hope to organize them and clean off some toys that could use a good washing or disinfectant and then purge ones that either annoy me or find little use.
My kids don’t even have that many toys, but it sure feels like a lot when it takes 20 minutes to just clean up one little bed and lots of whining

Carolyn’s Wedding (and Derek’s)

Monday, August 20th, 2007

So the wedding was beautiful! It was very hot since we had it outside in August in about 100 degree weather. Luckily it was short and you quickly forgot how hot it was once inside in the cool air.
Here’s my take on the night.
I warn that most of the pictures are of my little family. Early on the battery light came on so I was being careful with what pictures I took but as the night progressed it just kept working and of course I was mostly around my little family so that’s who’s pictures I took.

Fun things that happened.
Carolyn waved to Lilah when she was walking down the isle with Derek.
I almost cried during the wedding but was able to control myself. I did start crying during the father daughter dance when both Carolyn and my dad were crying.
No one decorated their car. We were all so unprepared.

We went to their house Sunday to watch them open gifts and they got like four kitchen aid gadgets or attachments but no kitchen aid!

I did make the girl’s dresses and my friend Anna made mine.

Random Pictures

Friday, July 20th, 2007

I decided to put up random pictures I’ve taken lately. 🙂

Lilah decided to draw Heavenly Father, or she drew this picture and then decided, I’m not sure.

Family reunion 2007 Pictures

Friday, July 20th, 2007

I know you all have been dying to see the family reunion pictures. 🙂

Well they’re mostly of my little family and kids and from the beginning of the reunion. Turns out I took twice as many of the fire than we did of the reunion. People sitting around talking just isn’t very interesting, or if we were doing something interesting we weren’t able to take pictures due to having our hands full!

Anyways here’s our photo’s from the trip.

My house is more crowded than your house.(Except maybe Amber’s right now.)

Friday, May 25th, 2007

Well, I’ve already told you about us being inventive and using the top bunk as storage. This is what this girls room looks like now.

bed2.jpg

bunkbed1.jpg

I asked my friend Anna’s opinion on putting a sheet over the stuff and she said it would just look strange. So here’s our stuff for anyone to see if they go into the girls room or read this blog. 🙂
I also thought I’d post pictures of our crowded closets. I still have to organize the top shelves so you get just the bottom half.

We have soo much stuff. I’m proud of these closets because with organizing them I got my sewing machine, in the black, and the draw set, out of the living room in which they were nicely settled under the black table that was there. I know the girls closet looks chaotic, but it is actually organized, kinda. ( Oh, if anyone finds a light brown flip flop let me know. I am missing one and they were soo comfy. I can’t seem to find it anywhere.)
And for your viewing pleasure here’s my end table/ trunk.

endtable1.jpg

endtable3.jpg

Right now it just holds papers that need to be filed and tapes that I want Jon to look at and get rid of. (Really I just want them gone so I don’t care if he ever looks at them before they’re tossed, but I will allow him to do the tossing.)
I’m trying to not put anything in it until I get my filing under control, since that’s what’s in it and I don’t want to forget about it. I’d post a picture of that but how much junk do you really want to see?

I have a CAR!!!

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

This past couple weeks have been crazy. I’ve been researching used cars, where to get them and how much. It’s been nuts. Well yesterday we bit the bullet and went and bought one.
Here’s my new-to-me 2004 Toyota Camry LE.

car.jpg

All the cars I wanted were sold and one had frame damage. This one we liked and our mechanic approved but said it had some rust, due to it being from Salt Lake City. We got it for a descent price and a really good warranty from Toyota. We were looking at going to an LDS guy who goes to the auctions and another one from Overton, but we decided that being able to see the car, test drive it and have our mechanic look at it were important, plus we got a really good warranty, in which had we purchased a similar warranty we probably would have spent the same amount. It was more than we wanted to spend overall. In some ways I think I was being too idealistic. We still bought within Jon’s income so any money I make will go to paying down debts and beefing up the savings that we just took from. I’m so happy to be able to go places! Though I’m going to try to stay close to home as to save money on gas. I love it! Lilah likes that she can see out the front window and it will fit three car seats! Yes an infant and two regular car seats. I love it. Jon says we can have a third, but I remind him that we do have a lot of bills right now so it might be better if we wait. Not that I would delay a child because of money but that is a factor in being able to afford one. We couldn’t have a third until we had a car to fit three and now that we have a car that can fit three we can’t afford it! Isn’t it ironic.

We also bought the car from a UNLV quarterback.(That was an old picture.) Well, we didn’t know who he was, even though Jon works at UNLV and I went there, but Jon researched his name after he told us he played. I hope he wasn’t too insulted. He was very nice, it was the manager that had the very typical cars sales man attitude. Yuck.

Last week.

Sunday, May 13th, 2007

I’ve been doing a lot lately. Well it seems like a lot. I finished my bedroom drapes! I now don’t have to adjust the blanket that was in the window each night before bed.

I’ve also been trying to get things organized. I’ve been going through all the old piles of papers and tossing things into a shred box and a to be filed box. Our first couple years of marriage are very unorganized so I have a lot of things to file and get ready to scan once we get a scanner. (I read a recommendation on scanning documents, such as tax paperers or medical statements, and filing things electronically. This was you don’t need to hold on to the actual papers past a year.) We keep everything so it’s nice to see the box of stuff I didn’t know what to do with get smaller. Like pay stubs and rent receipts from our first apartment. Those are getting shredded, not filed. I even found our actually wedding license from the State of Nevada. Good thing we never needed it in the past two years, because it was in a to be filed box from the move. That would have driven us nuts if we needed it.
I’m hoping to have the house organized to the way I want it by the end of the month. That way we’ll have less clutter and hopefully everything will have a place. I hope it will make my life a little easier. It seems hard to have the energy to do chores when I’m constantly trying to lessen the clutter, or I feel depressed about how much there is to do and don’t do anything. I’m seeing the light though. Next Saturday my dad and Jon will be getting rid of the crib and I am looking forward to organizing the closets more.
I’m enjoying organizing, even when I’m overwhelmed because I can see it slowly paying off. The one bad thing is I’m buying things to organize with. Like a new DVD shelf, which came yesterday, and hopefully the end table/ trunk will be here on Tuesday. They’ll hold the blankets I don’t have room for in my hall closet.
I’m also looking to buy some wicker baskets to put CD’s in and stuff animals.
Those can wait until June though.
Organize, organize, organize.
It’s only taking me two years to find a spot for everything, but now I have the time and the motivation.

This photo gives a better idea of the texture and colors of the fabric. We plan on painting the room a lighter shade of the blue in the curtain. I’m also trying to find sheets in the light seagreenish color, but I may just do blue.

Here’s one of my mother’s day gifts. Now instead of DVD’s in my entertainment center I have CD’s. At least they’re finally unpacked, it’s just been nearly two years.

Camping Trip- Pictures

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

We didn’t take any pictures until later in the trip. Lilah picked flowers while I changed Eden’s diaper. It was very fragrant.

A couple weeks ago my friend Anna took Lilah and Eden to the park in which she took tons of pictures. Of course I love pictures of my girls so I’m posting some.
I love the colors in the photos and I think I might get some printed so I can hang them in their room.
She took them with a great digital camera so they came out with great quality.
Thanks Anna.
