Here’s how my day’s gone. How was yours?

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

So yesterday I packed up some junk things we don’t use anymore into our trunk to give to Carolyn for her work’s charity garage sale.

Today I woke up to my wonderful Eden asking for something to eat and Jon already being gone. I’m sure I was just too out of it when he went to give me my goodbye kiss and left me to sleep. I’m sorry dear.

I eventually got into my shower and the girls breakfast and us out the door.

We got to Carolyn’s work and after giving her the stuff the girls got their exercise by walking and running around the ramp and stairs that are outside her work. They make a square and are soo fun according the Lilah. We also had time to kill before meeting Anna and my mom at Sweet Tomato’s so it was perfect. After a few laps I asked about anyone needing to go potty and Eden did. Lilah waited in the foyer. Then Lilah had to go and Eden waited in the foyer.
I guess Eden was also singing because one of the women on the office, who loves my girls, came out and complemented Eden on her sweet singing voice. You could tell Eden loved the compliment.

We then went to Sweet Tomatoes and stuffed ourselves full of good food.

My mom took my girls in my car back to her house and I took her car to my doctor’s appointment, or the whole reason I went to Henderson in the first place.

It was an appointment with my dermatologist. Jon noticed one of my moles/ freckles looking abnormal on my arm and I figured I should go now since our deductible has been paid by the girl’s two incidents last year and July is when the fiscal year ends and we’d have to pay it down again.
She said it was good that I was watching the two moles on my arms, but they’re not suspicious enough to remove.
But one of the moles that was removed on my back appears to be coming back, or there is pigment in the scar, and since the cells were abnormal I have to get it sutured.

I really hate this.

These two post explain a little of what I’m went through two years ago when I had precancerous or abnormal cells.

I guess they removed all the abnormal cells, or precancerous cells, but they were pretty deep so their was a chance the mole might grow back, and since it appears to be doing that she has to remove a lot of skin or suture me and they’ll retest and hopefully they’re just abnormal and not melanoma cells. It’s right under my previously sutured area.

It really sucks.

I have the appointment for the end of May. Jon has two weeks off and it’ll be in the middle of the second week. I figure we deserve at least one week of vacation, or time to do stuff, and the second week we can relax at home  and he’ll be there to help me for the first few days since I won’t be able to lift anything heavy, bend over or stretch my back for four weeks.

My doctor says I appear to get pretty thick scars, which is no fun. So I’ll have two scars right by on another. I think I’ll have Jon take a picture so you can understand how beautiful it will be. Luckily they are on my back, but they’re on my shoulder so it’s not a pretty sight when I’m in a swim suit.

It also bites because I won’t be able to go swimming for four weeks, or until the stitches are removed. Which means we’ll have to delay swimming lessons for Lilah, and I won’t be able to go swimming at her birthday party.

I figure it’s better to do it now though, rather then the middle of the summer when it’s the hottest and after we’ve already gone swimming.

It really saddens me to have these abnormal moles.

I have a lot of freckles and moles and as I more closely inspected my spotted back this morning I began to hate what I saw.
Instead of beautiful freckles that made me unique I saw potentially deadly cells that would eventually be taken off and leave by body scarred and ugly.

I know that not all of them will become harmful, but I’ve shown promising potential that they will. All three moles removed two years ago on my back were abnormal and two will leave large scars because of the depth of the cells in my skin. Every freckle and mole on me has the potential to change and become harmful.

I am grateful that I haven’t been diagnosed with melanoma. My doctor mentioned how once diagnosed you have to come in every three months to be checked out. I’m having a hard time with twice a year.

I hope the cells removed from me on the 28th are just abnormal.

Lazy weekend

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

This past Saturday we had to ourselves, meaning no prior engagements and we could hang around the house letting the other parent take care of girls, which means Jon took care of the girls so they planted seeds and got really dirty, then ran in the ‘fireworks’ sprinkler as Lilah calls it.

It was fun, but we didn’t do much of anything, which is sometimes nice, especially since I’m gonna be busy with Lilah’s class and making truffles for the next couple weeks. (I teach for the following two weeks.)

Sunday we decided to visit Jon’s parents. We haven’t seen his dad in forever, we’ve seen his mom while we’ve been at Rawlin’s but he always stays home because he’d be more trouble there than help.
Their church gets out at 2:30 and ours gets out at noon, so we came home for lunch and to hang around. We decided to skip Eden’s nap and go over in the afternoon.

We barely saw Jason before his bus came, but all he cares is that he saw us.
At one point Jon, Grandma, and the girls went outside to look at the tulips. It was a windy day with a slight chill in the air, though I’m sure 60 degrees would be warm to those in colder climates, but I’m wimp once it hits 75 here. I stayed inside to stay warm, but they lingered outside and soon my FIL wandered outside also. I was able to talk to Dara, who mostly spoke about death. I think she’s a little obsessed right now. I followed later and the girls were having a blast with the rope swing. They eventually wandered back inside and then Dara’s bus came.
We took the family photo albums so we can scan the photo’s and put them on disk for family, and when I say we I mean Jon.

We got home around 6:30 and Eden fell asleep on the couch while I was cooking some dinner. I guess she still needs naps, which makes me happy ’cause that means she’s not too big just yet. Lilah ate with us and then starting falling asleep on the couch around 8 while watching a movie she borrowed from Grandma Blake.

Lazy weekends are great.

Hola

Friday, March 14th, 2008

We live in a very Spanish, Mexican, Latino, or whatever you want to call it, neighborhood it makes it easier at times to decline door to door solicitation but on the other hand it makes it harder to get to know you’re neighbors.

Our neighbors that are to the East of us have three little girls and the mother stays home. The oldest, I just learned, is in preschool 3 days a week, and missed entering kindergarten this year because her birthday is in October, and then the next two girls are 3 and 1.

Eden is in love with the neighbor girls. She wants to always say hi if she hears they’re outside or if they’re outside as we leave or come home. She’s said hello for a while but the wanting to socialize and talk to them for longer periods of time started  a couple weeks ago when the oldest was playing with her while Jon was outside doing whatever, Eden realized she found a friend and now wants to see her whenever she can.

The one delima is I had never spoken to the mom and didn’t know how much English the mother knew. Today I talked to her and she knows a little, but not much. She joked that I needed to learn Spanish and she needed to learn English. She will be taking a class soon at the community center she said, or at least that’s what I got, and she invited us to come use their pool if the girls ever wanted to come over. Though I think she may have meant swings, but they could have a small pool back there.

Anyways, I’m thinking I should try to learn some Spanish, so I can hopefully understand her a little more or help her find the English words. Also if the girls are going to play together a little they won’t be able to understand the other girls easily, and I should make an effort to help them.

I do feel happy that the barrier has been broken. We’ve always said hello and waved, but never really spoken.

It happened because I had our front door open to cooler air and Eden saw the girls outside. Unfortunately they were leaving, and not just playing, so by the time she got her sandals to me and on they were in the car. When they returned Eden and Lilah were both for going  outside and saying hello, so I talked to the mom, or Hortencia, and explain how my girls love to say hi. The oldest daughter invited the girls to play in her house but I declined, one because the mom hadn’t offered and I didn’t want her to feel uncomfortable and two because it was Eden’s nap time.
Lilah is set on us picking a time to play with the girls. She wants to play on their swings that she can see from our backyard.

It’s nice to get to know your neighbors a little more. Even if there wasn’t a language barrier I’d probably be shy and it just gave me a good excuse to not know them well.  Now, with friendly girls, they leave me little choice but to meet new people.

Cakes, cookies, and whatever else you want.

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

My friend Amber is doing a little contest about plugging her business here on her blog, and you can visit her business site here which is in Utah, and I want her yummy cookies.

I only know a few people in Utah, but if you know people who need a cake or whatever tell them about Amber, she’s fantastic and makes me want to be an artist of cake making.

More Easter Gifts

Monday, March 10th, 2008

One of the blogs I lurk on wrote about these water bottles a long, long, time ago.

Jon and I have recently talked about buying some sort of water canteens to use instead of buying more water in in disposable bottles to take with us.
I seized the opportunity to go and buy some for the girls and one for me because when were out hiking or enjoying ourselves we’ll each need our own water, right?
I think I might buy some backpacks or make something for the girls to carry their stuff in when we go walking or out and about, so I don’t have to lug a bag with their water bottles.
They’re small, yet strong, and should become their own pack mules.

Anyways these are the ones I bought and they’re going to be an Easter Gift.
My girls don’t get dresses for Easter they get their own water bottles to help the environment. I wonder what I’ll get them next year, maybe reusable grocery bags?

For me…I think I’ll put it in my Easter basket too.

I apologize

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

I just want to mention that WordPress hasn’t been emailing me all the comments, so I don’t always know I have any to approve.

I’m not sure why this is happening.

I’m going to have Jon work on this.

The Norm

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

I’ve been trying to think of what we’ve been up to. Not much outta the norm really.
We had Lilah’s preschool class on Thursday and both girls have runny noses today, though Eden’s been dealing with it since Tuesday off and on.

Wednesday we had a North and South marathon with the Jewitt’s. Beth’s not one to sit still, let alone sit still for 4 hours, but she did a good job and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. She wanted to watch it again later that night.

Today I went to Target by myself. I desperately want to get Lilah into a booster seat. I don’t have any good reasons but I do have a few mediocre ones.

First, the car seat we have is a pain to adjust straps, you have to unlatch it from the car and do it from the back, a total pain when they stop wearing coats and begin swimming in the extra space at Springtime.
Second, we got it from my parents so it’s had some good wear and tear on it and the straps are always weird.
Third, I’d like to have a seat for Jon’s car so I can always drive mine. (The one with both girls gets the Toyota in case of an emergency since the Subaru has only one car seat.)
Lastly, it’s easier to take a booster seat out to let friends or family take Lilah than to unlatch a car seat.

I didn’t buy one because Lilah’s in an awkward stage of growth and even though she’s large enough for a booster with a back I think laws want her to be 40 pounds and that she is not.

So instead of spending lots of money on a booster I spent money on clothes for the girls and sunglasses.

I love and hate buying clothes. I just love to buy them but I hate how much it costs to buy a new wardrobe each season.

Katy and Lilah are close enough in sizes that I can’t borrow clothes as easily so I’m stuck buying Lilah a new wardrobe as she gets bigger and then Adrienne and Eden are also close enough in size that I can’t borrow for her and I buy to supplement what Lilah had.

Lilah really wore out a lot of her 3T’s so I bought Eden one new outfit so she has something that’s new for her and not too worn. I bought Lilah pajama’s and one outfit then I bought the sunglasses for an Easter gift. We’re planning on being outdoors more this summer so I figure sunglasses would be fun. By we I mean Jon wants to buy a family pass to the Spring preserve and take the girls there often, and he wants to do some camping and hiking this summer at the Grand Canyon.

I of course hate the sun, getting sweaty, and anything that includes dirt. 🙂

I am enjoying the warm weather. I ventured to try on a pair of shorts and since I’ve gained a few pounds they are a little tight. (Thankfully they’re made from a stretchy material.) I’m thinking of losing weight but we still have half of a Costco sized box of Oreo’s and today I just bought 3 boxes of Girl Scout cookies. ( I admit I heard someone on another blog talk about Girl Scout cookies and I went to the store today specifically to buy some, plus cereal since we’re almost out, but that was just a good excuse to go so I could buy Girl Scout cookies. I bought Peanut Butter Patties, Caramel deLights, and Lemonades which are delicious if you like lemon flavored sweets. I think they’re my favorite cookie excluding ones that have chocolate, peanut butter, or caramel in them. )

So I’m thinking I need to exercise a little (I say a little because I don’t exercise at all.), eat less and drink more water. I bought a scale today and I’m not as heavy as I feel, but I do want to fit into my summer clothes and look nice as the weather warms.

First I think I’ll grab a Peanut Butter Pattie.

Funny Mormon.

A while back I heard a funny/sad story on This American Life told by Elna Baker. (It’s in act three at the very bottom if you want the summary.)
Just recently my friend Sam sent me this video of the author.

Warning: It’s funny, but it does use the word vagina, but not in a dirty way, so if you have children in the room and you don’t want them repeating the word vagina, use your headphones or try to wait until bedtime.

Happy Anniversary to me

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

So, I’ve received my anniversary presents.

One dozen lavender roses.
One box of chocolates.

They’re delicious. They’re Grey and Smoked Salt Caramels by Fran’s Chocolate Ltd.

Very tasty.

Lilah says we should send her flowers and buy her chocolates.

Changing my hair appointment from 10 am to 5:30 pm has been worth it because they both showed up before 12:30 or while I would have been gone. (I called Jon just to see if I’d be getting anything today when I was making my appointment yesterday.)

So those are my gifts from Jon.

The hair appointment is my gift to myself. I’ll be getting highlights and cutting off about 2 inches. Shoulder length is just too long for me to do and feel cute and sassy, plus I think I might add bangs again because they also help me feel cute, even if they drive me nuts on days I don’t do my hair.

Tomorrow we’re planning on a matinée movie while the girls are at a birthday party and then dinner at a restaurant his office manager recommended and gave us a gift card for. (The gift card is good for any Station Casino restaurant but she recommended a specific one.)
She gave it to Jon as a Christmas present, but since we rarely go somewhere this nice I thought we’d save it for our anniversary.

I love anniversaries.
I love when they’re kinda a two day event.
Gifts one day and dinner the next makes it very fun.

Computer Savvy

Friday, February 8th, 2008

So I’m not very computer savvy.
In fact I’m like an old dog, I hate new computer tricks, though I’m not bad, I’m just not good. (Jon can attest to how I hate being taught computer stuff and how I always take the long route cause it’s what I know best. )

Anyways, I was messing around in my Windows Photo Gallery and I realized I could make movies!
So I’m putting Lilah’s gymnastics program up from December.
It was 4 different clips and I’ve tied them all together.

I feel so smart.

Enjoy her cuteness.
