The day and whatever I felt like writing.

Friday, October 5th, 2007

Jon came in before his shower to tell me that Eden was awake and that she had woken up at 6:15 am.
Lovely.
It did work out in the end because I put her down for her nap right after lunch and she woke up a little after 3, just in time for us to get ready and leave for Chuck E Cheese. (It was Howie’s Birthday party tonight.)
In the end I really enjoyed today.
It was breezy and cool so I left the windows open. I closed one because the scent of dirt was too strong. I think we need a new screen on it.
I turned on the CD with the Primary songs for the presentation and the girls “read” church magazines. They got along well this morning while I did things.
I got my kitchen clean, including cleaning my dishwasher with the jet dry cleaner.
It seems like I do dishes and still have more that need to be done. Then I take a day off and the cycle begins anew.
Today I had no dishes in the sink until lunchtime.
I did laundry and I put a new bed skirt on our bed. I had to iron it though. Boo for bed skirts that have to be ironed.
With getting a new bed skirt I can now get rid of my full size comforter set.
I’ll miss it, but I have no reason to keep it. It was one of my first big purchases for myself as a teenager. Hopefully some one else can enjoy it once I get it to DI.
I also tidied in our room today.
I’m happy I got so much done, even though it was just a little, because I’ve been in a funk. I haven’t wanted to do more than necessary, hence taking a day off from dishes until I had to have dishes done because we’re out of something, usually having all dirty bowls get us in a bind.
I’m also excited to start working on Halloween costumes. Lilah informed me she now wants to be Tin Man and Eden can be Dorothy.
Great. Good thing I just got the pattern and haven’t started cutting.
I’m happy because I think I’m emerging slowly from my funk.
Doing one nice thing , like cooking real meals, leads to another, like organizing just a little.

I hate being in funks, though they do give me an excuse to be miserable and not get anything done. I still feel like I’m having a hard time with the girls but I’m feeling better about doing things.
Lunch time is the worst with the girls. They know how to annoy each other to no end and that annoys me.
I hear “Mom, Eden’s talking to me”, “Mom Eden’s making a noise I don’t like.” and “NOOOO LILAH!” as Lilah does something like touch Eden’s high chair tray, or she takes Eden’s food, when Lilah runs out of animal crackers Eden’s a good target, also Eden is good at mimicking so it’s also “Mommy Lilah talking!”
I tell them to ignore one another like I ignore them when they whine, but it doesn’t work.
It’s great. I feel the sisterly love.

The day was good overall.
I feel a change in the air, and it’s not just my crazy sick voice possibly getting better or the cold air we’re getting.
I think I’m getting back on track. I think the holidays will be good for me.
Lots of things to keep me busy and to focus on.

Here they are racing a little.

random updates

Monday, September 24th, 2007

On Saturday when we went to see the nurse practitioner, Lilah’s hives had cleared up a lot so it was the last shot we needed to give her.
Half the blood work was back and they were all negative for the viral infection. ๐Ÿ™‚
So we’re still not sure what caused it. ๐Ÿ™

Lilah’s looking normal and acting normal. She did decide on Sunday that she wanted to take a nap during primary though.
I think I’ll reschedule our pictures for next week because she’ll probably have some pink spots on her face still come Wednesday.

Today I’ve done dishes and cleaned the kitchen a little.
Now that the weather is going cold to warm to cold, like Vegas Falls often start out like, I’m needing to put away some summer clothes and take out some winter clothes.

Lilah is at an awkward stage where size 4 pants are a little big but size 3 pants are a little small.
Eden is wanting new clothes but she gets hand-me-downs, with a couple new things in the mix. They’re new to her. ๐Ÿ™‚

Lots of laundry is in my future as I reorganize the clothes.

The girls room is also being taken over by a poopy diaper smell.
It stinks in there so I use a plug in air freshener, but Jon can’t stand it.
I want a new diaper pail and since Eden only poops once a day I think I might put poopy diapers in the outside trash when they happen.
I just can’t stand the poop smell.
Jon says to give the diaper pail a good scrubbing, but it’s been soaking up stinky diaper smell for over 4 years. I think it’s time to get rid of it.

Up note- Carolyn and Derek got a new computer so they’re going to give us their flat screen monitor. Now all I need to is to find a cheap, but sturdy, computer cabinet and maybe someday I will have a fireplace- instead of a desk in front of a fireplace. ๐Ÿ™‚

The other problem being I’ll also have to find a good filing cabinet for cheap.

Maybe I should try garage sells.

Thank you…

Auntie Carolyn and Uncle Derek!

Lilah loves the flowers and the bear- even if her face doesn’t show it.
(She’s not showing much of any emotion right now except discomfort for her hands and arm.)
Her mommy really enjoyed the surprise also.

Flowers!- Hey where’s the excitement? She was busy asking why people send flowers.

A little smile.

sasuagefingers.jpg

Sausage fingers. Not a good pic- really just a close crop of a larger one, but her fingers are very swollen.

The hives are also darker in real life. The flash washed out the some of the pinkness she has. She does looks more like herself today though.

Update from 5 minutes ago: ๐Ÿ™‚

She loves the bear!

Party time!

Saturday, September 1st, 2007

Today was Andrea’s baby shower. Not many people RSVPed and there was another girl from UNLV who had a shower today also, plus it was a holiday weekend. So we had about 5 guest to start out, then us 4 Harvey girls and my mom, then after I did games and Andrea began opening presents 1 guest came with her daughter and grand baby and then 2 more also showed up.
So it was small and got off to a slow start but I think they had fun. I hope anyways.

We played a game where I had 20 questions about Andrea and her pregnancy, we measured the belly and then we did a price is right game. Instead of doing the memory game we had the products and they had to match them to one of the prices listed. Most of what I bought I got on clearance, so in total I paid about 65-70% of what all the prices came to. People were surprised to actually look at the normal retail prices of things, it was kinda funny.
I didn’t do the pin game, though I think it might have added a little fire to the group had Julie been on the look out for those who had their legs crossed or said baby, depending on the twist we gave it.

I think it went well overall and once the presents were done with there was a lot of conversing.

I was a little sad that it was a small turn out. I tried to get good gifts for the games, also things that were on clearance but nice, and have fun food, we had chocolate fondue. We also had chocolate covered popcorn for the guests to take home. I guess all that matters is that Andrea had a good time and that those who were there did too.
Since we had it on the other side of town, Carolyn’s new house is at Mountain’s Edge near Blue Diamond and Rainbow, I think some people may have been deterred to come. Part of me feels bad if that was a reason, but the valley is so big now that no where is going to be convenient for all and so I guess if you wanted to be there you were.
I think once everyone was there, a total of 14 adults, 3 toddlers and 2 babies, it was just the right size for Carolyn’s house.
I had Jon come with me so he could keep an eye on the girls and so those who know the girls, but don’t see them, could see them. Such as Veronica from UNLV, who brought her granddaughter so Andrea could meet her, and Deniece, whom Andrea use to work with and knows me too. I also think they’re cute and like to show them off.:) So kids were not not aloud but we did want to keep it to where they would be supervised by their parent since Carolyn and Derek’s home isn’t exactly child friendly.

Over all I think it went well. We actually had one person show up after all the guest had left, but that’s when she was able to come.
I’m happy Carolyn let us use her house, and I had fun going over there the night before and putting together furniture and rearranging furniture so it would be ready for Saturday. I tried to put the couch chair back to where it was but I’m sure Derek will have to fix it.

Eden feel asleep on the way home, in which she had to sleep on our bed because her bed is covered in toys from before we left.
Lilah feel asleep and then Jon and I feel asleep on the couch. We woke up about 7 and got dinner, which was cereal, around 7:30.
I actually haven’t eaten yet.

I now need to go over my lesson a little for church and write a talk for Lilah.
Even though we killed Derek’s printer my sister Kristi has an extra one that they’re willing to give us. Hopefully we don’t somehow kill this one too! (knock on wood), but it is a really nice one and fairly new.

Vinegar.

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Jon was looking somewhere and he found that boiling vinegar and water will remove bad scents in the air. I came home one night and he asked if I could tell what he had for dinner. I said no. He was happy to tell me he had had some canned fish which of course canned fish always leaves a yucky scent in the air.
While boiling the vinegar and water it smells like vinegar and water in the house, but once it settles you don’t notice any scent.
Yesterday he had canned fish again for dinner, it kinda made eating french toast a little strange,ร‚ย  and when I came home the fish scent was still overwhelmingly in the house. I made him boil vinegar and water. He had taken the diaper trash out and decided to see if the vinegar and water wouldn’t help with the scent of poop in the pail. So he boiled it and then placed it in a cup inside the diaper pail. It actually worked pretty well. The diaper pail does smell like vinegar but I’d much rather have that scent then the poop. I usually spray it with Lysol and air it out outside to get the scent out, but this was a more natural solution.
We also wrap poopy diapers in grocery bags to help cut done on the scent of the diaper pail. It works pretty well and we don’t have to pay for diaper genie refills.

Vinegar and water a natural neutralizer of odors, who knew.

Carolyn’s Wedding (and Derek’s)

Monday, August 20th, 2007

So the wedding was beautiful! It was very hot since we had it outside in August in about 100 degree weather. Luckily it was short and you quickly forgot how hot it was once inside in the cool air.
Here’s my take on the night.
I warn that most of the pictures are of my little family. Early on the battery light came on so I was being careful with what pictures I took but as the night progressed it just kept working and of course I was mostly around my little family so that’s who’s pictures I took.

Fun things that happened.
Carolyn waved to Lilah when she was walking down the isle with Derek.
I almost cried during the wedding but was able to control myself. I did start crying during the father daughter dance when both Carolyn and my dad were crying.
No one decorated their car. We were all so unprepared.

We went to their house Sunday to watch them open gifts and they got like four kitchen aid gadgets or attachments but no kitchen aid!

I did make the girl’s dresses and my friend Anna made mine.

Deployment

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

Not too long ago my SIL Fallon posted some news about my brother Scott’s new post in Baltimore, MD, where they’re moving to in November.

He then proceeded to tell me that he had just found out that we are transferring to a deploying billet. He will be deployed for 90 to 120 days at a time, once a year, every year until we leave. And, he will not be deployed on a boat, he will be on the ground, most likely Iraq or Afghanistan! We found out that apparently the Recs are out of date. They have this command down as a shore billet, which is one of the reasons we put in for it. We have planned everything around a shore command, and now, when it is to late to put in an order modification, we find out that it is a sea going billet.

She proceeds to tell how hard it’s been for her.
Thoughts of my bother going overseas have been in and out of my mind since this post. On 9-11 he was on a Naval ship off the coast of Virginia, if I remember correctly, and it took a while before correspondence was allowed due to trying to keep the location secret. I remember being worried for him but knowing that no news of Navy ships had been declared and he did return home safely.

I really worry once he moves and has to be deployed. The taste of war is bitter in my mouth with knowing my brother will be one of the soldiers apart of it. I love him and I know this will be hard for his wife when he finally has to leave until he is back from his last deployment.
I love you Scott and I wish you safety.

Our Date and other stuff

Saturday, August 4th, 2007

For our date last night we had $24 allotted in our budget. (We went over last month andร‚ย  this month we compensate. It’s easier in some categories than others, like gas we’re -$50 since we went to Utah, so that doesn’t count when Jon has to fill up to got to work.)
We went to the Daily Chicken Gyro, it’s a fast food type Mediterranean restaurant and hookah lounge. I’ve only been there once before and I think we were engaged, where it had looked very cheesy and I was like, you want to go where for dinner?ร‚ย  They have since bought the space that was next to it and redecorated and it was very nice. We spent $24.02 for our date, score, now we have to be creative the rest of the month if we want to go out.
I enjoyed a garlic chicken sandwichร‚ย  and some humus. It was not too garlicky but Jon did have a chicken that also had garlic. Really even if you both have garlic breath do you really feel more inclined to kiss? Anyways, it was nice to hang around and talk in the very quite atmosphere since their was about one other restaurant costumer and about 4 people in the hookah lounge.ร‚ย  I also enjoyed the aroma that the hookah’s gave off also. (Jon says it’s very busy at lunch hour, with being straight across the street from UNLV, they do business lunches there sometimes.)

We then headed of to Fry’s. I actually saw the welcome to Las Vegas sign for the first time. I never knew where it was located, nor cared. I think they have another one on a different side of town too, because I remember it being somewhere else.
I played solitaire on a computer while Jon chose what he wanted. Then we picked up ourร‚ย  girls from Sam’s house where they had had fun playing with Britta. Eden actually went in to help clean up the room before we left. She didn’t want to leave it a mess. Sam says she’s always a good helper. I’m happy that she’s always willing to help at other people’s houses, but it seems that it’s 50/50 whether or not she’ll clean up before she has to take a time out here.

So we have a new computer but it’s not set up. I still need to print out tomorrows Sunday school lesson and I forbade him to do anything until that was done. Jon’s also been doing other things.
I started cutting out Eden’s dress. I had the pieces pinned to the fabric and then it was time to lay Lilah down for a nap. I was tired so I figured I’d take a short nap. It turned out to be an hour later when Jon came and woke me in Lilah’s bed. I then went to our room and slept another hour and a half. So I have wasted some time but I think I’ll get it all cut out tonight. I was wanting to have the skirt sewn so I could hem it at my mom’s house while we’re there tomorrow. I do sew on Sunday’s if I have too and I consider this a I have too moment since I’d have to drive out there on Monday or Tuesday to do this one thing, I think not with how much time and gas I’d spend.

Side note. Jon’s dad fainted at Costco on Friday so they went to the ER on the recommendation of one of their doctor’s He was admitted overnight and as of 2 this afternoon they still have no idea what it was. They may not figure it out but we think he’ll be out soon.
He’s 77 for those who don’t know and as had declining health for most of our marriage, but he keeps chugging along. He recently had his pacemaker changed and the battery replaced and Mom said that really appeared to help him. I think he will be fine as long as he takes it easy, though he has a very hard time taking it easy.
