About me

Friday, September 28th, 2007

I’ve updated my ‘About‘ page.
I’m sure many of you visit it because you know nothing about me.

Though I’m not sure who visits my blog since only Andrea comments lately.ร‚ย  (Amber what is the secret to keeping hairholders in your girl’s hair?) Though there was much sympathy for Lilah who is mostly all better. I think she’s itchy day in and day out because she wants more bubble gum medicine, AKA dye free Benedryl for children, not that she has any idea what real bubblegum taste like. Though when Lilah does scratch excessively she still gets welts, and I almost took her to the doctor twice this week because I was being paranoid, with good reason mind you. I saw welts and I thought she was getting the hives again, this was Tuesday, two days after the last steroid shot. I gave her Benedryl and the welts went away, but I had to give her Benedryl every 4 to 5 hours to keep her from scratching and causing welts. Now things areร‚ย  good and she is weaned from all medicine until the next mishap.

Anyways.
If you scroll down the ‘About‘ page is on the right below ‘Pages’ and before the search feature, as of the current blog format, though I’m looking to change things up since fall is here, kinda.

“Go potty”

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Eden’s close if not ready to be potty trained.ร‚ย  I think.
Once, a while back, she told Jon she needed to use the potty and she did. It had been after Lilah had gone to the bathroom.
Then yesterday she used the potty while in the nursery during Lilah’s class. Two of the other girls her age are already potty trained, so I’m guessing she heard they had to go potty and she decided she had to go to.

She’s also tells me she needs to go potty and once on the toilet nothing happens.
Lately she’s had a diaper rash because I don’t notice her poopy diapers soon enough.(It’s hard when they’re in the bedroom or roaming around and not near me.) I’ve had to put diaper rash cream on her and it seems she always has the urge to go potty after I change her diaper and put cream on her.
I don’t let her because then she’d get cream on the toilet seat, not that I mind since it’s the child seat in the girls bathroom, but then I’d have to clean her up and get her diaper back on.
It just doesn’t jive with me.

I had a really bad experience potty training Lilah. Besides becoming a willful 2 year old, our lives were also troubled by her going to the bathroom 2 minutes after I asked if she needed to go, and it seems that she peed on our living room rug a lot. She also always had to go once put in time out. Even now Lilah tries to use that excuse but we know she can hold it.

I think Eden only partially is really clued into when she has to go to the bathroom.ร‚ย  It’s a bit of a hit and miss.ร‚ย  Also she’s not waking up with dry diapers consistently from nap or bed time.

I really am dreading potty training. It seemed to go on for months withร‚ย  Lilah, which it did, and I would get so mad when I felt she could control herself but didn’t, or if she waited too long and would have an accident.
I have my fathers patience sometimes. When having to clean pee up all the time, my patience grows thin.

So Eden’s getting close to being out of diapers, which will save us about $35-45 a month.
I try not to compare that two other girls her age are out of diapers, in which I was shocked that they were even being trained before 2 1/2, but they were both highly interested in going to the bathroom.
Eden’s just kinda interested.

Lilah only had two poop incidents when being potty trained, which I am thankful for.
I fear that Eden is less in tune with when she needs to go poop and she’s harder to read.
With Lilah I could notice when she had to go, or was going, and she even was on a pretty good schedule, which when you’re potty training you really start paying attention to when they usually need to go.
With Eden I never know when she’s pooping. I get no visual face cues and she only squats sometimes, but usually because she’s already squatting.

I think I mostly worry about my temper and possibly distancing myself from Eden.
Potty training is so stressful.
I don’t know where to begin with Eden, or when, even though I’ve trained one child. It didn’t work out the best during the training and I know each girl will be different than other.

running at Mt. Charleston

Here they are racing a little.

Mt. Charleston

Friday, September 28th, 2007

On Wednesday we took an adventure with Julie, Naia, and her step-son Reagan.
We went to the beautiful Mt. Charleston, or cold mountain as Lilah liked to call it.
It really wasn’t that cold. Who knew 62 degrees could be so warm.
I don’t think we made it to Mt. Charleston, more like Lee Canyon.
We just went to some camping grounds to try to eat our food and enjoy some hiking and exploring.

We picked up some Kentucky Fried Chicken and headed towards the mountain.
We tried to eat outside in the beautiful weather but some bee’s or wasps liked our chicken and pretty much swarmed us.
( A swarm consists of more than 4 bees being around our site at once.)
Poor Reagan was totally freaked out by them, as was Julie, and they were both having a hard time, though Julie was trying to not act scared.
My girls were mostly OK unless the bee/ wasp flew around their face.
I suggested we eat in our cars so Julie agreed and we headed back to our original picnic spot. (We went to three different spots before we gave up because of the bees/wasp.)

Take a picture of me eating chicken mom!

Eden has proven to be my adventurous child. She would wander off without anyone near her. She did stay in eye range, but only because I kept reminding her to not go to far.

Eden, come back here!

08intheforest.jpg

We took a hike in the woods. Lilah loved the woods.

Wait, where’d Eden go?

09log.jpg

We found a large tree that had been cut down.

This was the best out of the 2 pictures I took.

After being in the woods we decided to take a walk along the road.

They wanted to hold onto the stroller, at first.

Eden and Lilah both wanted to wander into the woods later so we distracted them by making them run to places.

Do these pants make my diaper look big?

Lilah’s hives came out a little with the running so we made her walk with us as Reagan and Eden ran ahead.

We had a fun day.

Eden slept for the 45 minutes home and decided that was enough nap for the day. Lilah never took a nap. In fact I think she’s going on nap strike.

Sometimes you wake up from a dream and think it’s hilarious. I had one of those today.
It may not be as funny right now, but I thought it was funny when my children decided to wake me up shortly after I had it. I think it wasร‚ย  thought after I had the dream that made me laugh besides being a little sleep deprived.

I had a dream where I was in a large warehouse store with a platform type cart. One women was behind me and another was in front of me and we were racing to see who could get the most food for food storage. The women behind me, who was a SNL performer, decided that she would try to run into me. So I would jump up and ride her cart while she angrily, and competitively, pushed me along.

I then had a thought about people competing for who had the most food storage and then I thought it would be funny if people really did compete. “I have 2 years of food storage” “I have 5!” In my sleepy state I thought 5 years would be the winner.

I think my conscious is getting to me. We don’t have 5 months of food storage let alone 5 years. ๐Ÿ™‚

random updates

Monday, September 24th, 2007

On Saturday when we went to see the nurse practitioner, Lilah’s hives had cleared up a lot so it was the last shot we needed to give her.
Half the blood work was back and they were all negative for the viral infection. ๐Ÿ™‚
So we’re still not sure what caused it. ๐Ÿ™

Lilah’s looking normal and acting normal. She did decide on Sunday that she wanted to take a nap during primary though.
I think I’ll reschedule our pictures for next week because she’ll probably have some pink spots on her face still come Wednesday.

Today I’ve done dishes and cleaned the kitchen a little.
Now that the weather is going cold to warm to cold, like Vegas Falls often start out like, I’m needing to put away some summer clothes and take out some winter clothes.

Lilah is at an awkward stage where size 4 pants are a little big but size 3 pants are a little small.
Eden is wanting new clothes but she gets hand-me-downs, with a couple new things in the mix. They’re new to her. ๐Ÿ™‚

Lots of laundry is in my future as I reorganize the clothes.

The girls room is also being taken over by a poopy diaper smell.
It stinks in there so I use a plug in air freshener, but Jon can’t stand it.
I want a new diaper pail and since Eden only poops once a day I think I might put poopy diapers in the outside trash when they happen.
I just can’t stand the poop smell.
Jon says to give the diaper pail a good scrubbing, but it’s been soaking up stinky diaper smell for over 4 years. I think it’s time to get rid of it.

Up note- Carolyn and Derek got a new computer so they’re going to give us their flat screen monitor. Now all I need to is to find a cheap, but sturdy, computer cabinet and maybe someday I will have a fireplace- instead of a desk in front of a fireplace. ๐Ÿ™‚

The other problem being I’ll also have to find a good filing cabinet for cheap.

Maybe I should try garage sells.

Thank you…

Auntie Carolyn and Uncle Derek!

Lilah loves the flowers and the bear- even if her face doesn’t show it.
(She’s not showing much of any emotion right now except discomfort for her hands and arm.)
Her mommy really enjoyed the surprise also.

Flowers!- Hey where’s the excitement? She was busy asking why people send flowers.

A little smile.

sasuagefingers.jpg

Sausage fingers. Not a good pic- really just a close crop of a larger one, but her fingers are very swollen.

The hives are also darker in real life. The flash washed out the some of the pinkness she has. She does looks more like herself today though.

Update from 5 minutes ago: ๐Ÿ™‚

She loves the bear!

Lilah’s hives

Friday, September 21st, 2007

So today I took Lilah to see the nurse practitioner for her second steroid shot. I found out that my pediatrician is moving to Washington and is being a little shady to his patients, as in not telling us. If they get a new physician to take over the office I hope we like him or two that we can find another one we do like. I like Karen, the nurse practitioner, so if she stays there that would be a bonus.

Lilah’s doing OK. Her hands are like little sausages and have swelled up. I feel really bad for them and her.ร‚ย  She is still swollen and has aร‚ย  lot of hives. Lilah took her shot well and since I went today and spoke to Karen she also explained to me that she feels it is viral since they’ve had several children go through these sever hives. It’s also uncommon for just an allergic reaction to react so severally hive wise. With finding out it was most likely viral, and letting it sink in, I called Julie and told her that I shouldn’t have Naia. I had Naia yesterday so I hope she stays healthy.
I also want to kick myself because I let the girls share a spoon yesterday with a milkshake. I just wasn’t thinking.
I’m hoping no one gets sick that we know, because I wouldn’t want to put anyone else through this.

Lilah also had to get blood drawn so we did that today. She was a real trooper and she didn’t even flinch.
She didn’t make eye contact with the women who drew her blood and shes hasn’t said a word to the nurse practitioner or the regular nurse. I try to tell them she’s like this most of the time with strange people and not to take offense.
Some say it’s kinda good because of the world today.

I’m hoping Lilah gets better soon. As for us I think I’m going to stay home and not do anything so I don’t give it to someone or their children either.
We should know by tomorrow if the blood work shows it is viral.
I just want answers, but I can’t imagine a virus doing all this to my baby.
Since the reaction did come with the use of amoxicillin we can still say not to give it to her because even if it is viral that doesn’t mean the hives weren’t also caused by the medicine. Karen also seemed fine with my desire to not give that family of medicine to my Eden either.

Nothing to do but worry.

Jon took Lilah to the doctor because she woke up looking like this.

badhives.jpg

badhives2.jpg

I don’t know what caused it yet, because he’s the one at the doctor’s. I wonder if she was having a reaction to the steroid or if the steroid just wasn’t strong enough to fight off the hives and she’ll need shoots.

When I talked to the nurse she mentioned a little boy who was so far along with hives that he needed steroid shots, so she may be in the same boat, otherwise I’d just think it’s a reaction to the steroids.

All I know is she looked better Wednesday morning after I gave her the first dose of steroid the night before. Later in the day I noticed her eyes were getting puffy. I had given her a second dose that morning. It was near the evening when the third steroid dose was to be administered so I thought she was just needing the medicine. Her welts were also coming back.
I gave her the evening dose of steroid and her face seemed to become inflamed before she even went to bed a couple hours later. When I was putting hydro-cortisone on her face to help the itch I noticed her jaw line was also swollen.
I was mostly just concerned at this point.
Later in the night I looked up some info and found something about angiodema. It worried me because Lilah had swollen eyelids and a swollen jawline. I worried that her breathing might become difficult so she was in bed with me again.
She survived the night. Since she continued to breath just fine and wasn’t in large amounts of pain or discomfort we just waited until 8 am to call the doctor and Jon took her in since I didn’t want to inconvenience Julie again.
So he’s with her and I’m at home worrying.
I haven’t heard anything from him so I’m guessing it’s going as smoothly as to be expected.

I’ve decided that I’m not going to let Eden ever have anything from the penicillin family. This is just too troubling to deal with again.

Update

Jon’s home. Lilah will need a steroid shot every day for 4-5 days it looks like. So I have to travel to Henderson every day. Thankfully they’re going to wave the co-pay, because that would make this ordeal $140-160 alone.

She’s in the second stage of hives, the next stage is where skin comes off or as the nurse said sloughs off. Yuck. It appears that she won’t get to that stage.

Since a little boy recently had the same thing happen to him in their office they’re also testing her urine for a virus, just in case. I’m guessing this sever of a reaction doesn’t happen often, so to have it happen twice within a short time frame is unexpected.

She looks a little better but is still very swollen like this morning.
I think I’ll reschedule the family pictures we’re suppose to have on Wednesday. ๐Ÿ™

… when you’ve woken up too early consistently and you take too long of naps when your child comes out from their nap and wakes you from yours and you think:

“5 am, it can’t be 5 am? Where’s Jon? Wait it’s daytime still. It’s 5 pm.”
